Learn F2L

Pair a corner and edge, then insert them together. Use CubeAlgo’s diagrams and alternatives to work through 41 F2L cases.

What is F2L?

F2L stands for First 2 Layers. After solving the cross in the CFOP method, you solve each first-layer corner together with its matching second-layer edge. Completing four corner-edge pairs finishes the F2L and prepares the cube for Full OLL and Full PLL.

You can learn F2L intuitively, using moves you understand, and use an algorithm library to explore cases that are difficult to recognise or solve efficiently. Watch how the corner and edge move instead of relying only on a memorised sequence.

Compare cases and alternatives

CubeAlgo’s F2L library has 41 cases. Case diagrams help you match the pair’s position and orientation. Alternatives let you compare solutions for different slots and choose moves that feel comfortable. You can keep your preferred sequence and mark each case as Not Learned, Learning or Learned.

Practise with a purpose

Start with slow, deliberate repetitions, keeping the cross and completed pairs intact. Review cases you hesitate on and choose one or two to revisit in your next session.

The F2L algorithm library is publicly available. Dedicated F2L algorithm practice is a CubeAlgo Pro feature; the web version requires the access password. General puzzle practice is available in the web practice timer.

iOS and web progress are separate. Browse Mike’s cube tutorials ↗ for more learning resources.
